Artistic Behavior Units
First introduced in The Open Art Room, Artistic Behavior Units are a method of presenting modified-choice that is founded on the ways in which artists think and work. These units often encapsulate the introduction of new media, the teaching of skills and techniques, and the exploration of artists and artwork, into a series of lessons that are all based on teaching the same concept.
Artistic Behavior Units were originally developed at Apex High School. The conception of the idea came from a desire to present content that deviated from the traditional method. Previously, art educational content was presented either by media or by the elements of art and the principles of design. Neither of these methods was ideal and both had their limitations. Artistic Behavior Units start and end with the artist. They can incorporate any skill or technique and they can include the use of any medium. Presentation of artists and artworks can include anything from the earliest works of prehistoric art to the latest contemporary art being created today.
